Last night’s FBLA banquet was a great way to celebrate an incredible year and the people who made it special. From sharing a meal and enjoying time together to recognizing achievements and leadership, it was a night to remember.

We’re proud of the growth that our chapter has seen in the past year. We had record participation, strong performances at Districts, and several of our members advanced to State. Most of all, we’re grateful for the dedication and commitment shown by our members throughout the year. Our student leaders continue to make an impact within our school and community.

A special goodbye to our Seniors. You have left a lasting impact on the Higbee FBLA Chapter and we wish you the very best in what comes next.

Congratulations to our newly announced 2026–2027 leadership team! We’re excited to keep building, strengthening our CTSO programs, and making next year even better.

Kiersten Rockett – President
Mya Sears – Secretary
Brooke Dougherty – Treasurer
Jayla Schaedel – Vice President of Public Relations

On Thursday last week, the Northeast Region of MSTA held their annual Spring Banquet. Educators from around the region were honored as they begin a new chapter in their life with retirement. Mrs. Kristine Young was one of those honorees. Mrs. Young is concluding her teaching career after 32 years. The night was also a time to recognize members who have been awarded grants to aid our district and students. Ms. Teresa Messer was awarded a grant to purchase items in which she will use as she works with a wide variety of students in the Special Education program. Mrs. April Case and Ms. Shanie Beach were also awarded grants to aid in the purchase of equipment for the digital photography program. GO TIGERS!

FFA Banquet May 13
The Higbee middle school track teams put together an outstanding performance at the St. Mary’s Invitational in Glasgow, highlighted by 6 school records, numerous personal bests, and strong finishes across every event group. Leading the way historically, the boys 4x800 relay (Imhoff, Simmons, Sears, Dodsworth) set a new school record—completing an incredible accomplishment as this same core group now holds all four relay records (4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800). The girls are looking to do the same with the 4x800 and 4x200 relays also setting new school records today. These broken records were held by phenomenal athletes that went on to compete at state in high school. This goes to show what is in store for the future of track and field at Higbee School! In the field events, Higbee made more history. The boys pole vault group reset the school record, with both vaulters clearing higher than the previous mark. The boys discus record was also broken, continuing a dominant stretch in the throwing events. On the track, the boys mile record fell as well, highlighting the team’s continued development in distance running. On the boys side, Phoenyx Sears had a big day with PRs in both the 100m and 200m, while also placing 4th in discus with a PR throw of 27.00m. Jackson Dodsworth added strong performances in the 200m and 400m and contributed to the record-setting 4x800, while also placing 6th in shot put. Justyn Imhoff delivered one of the top distance performances of the meet, placing 4th in the 800m and running a huge PR in the 1600m to break the school record. Isiah Simmons was a standout across multiple events, placing 2nd in pole vault with a PR and helping reset the school record, while also adding a PR in long jump and a strong hurdles finish. Talon Stockhorst added a PR in discus, contributing to the team’s success in the throws. For the girls, the sprint group set the tone early. Emma Deschu placed 2nd in the 100m with a PR and added another PR while finishing 2nd in the hurdles. Avian Deskin placed 3rd in both the 100m (PR) and hurdles, giving Higbee a strong presence on the podium. Addison Greening and Tinsley Vanlandingham both recorded PRs in the 100m, with Vanlandingham adding additional PRs in the 200m and 400m. Ridley Hall also picked up a PR in the 200m. In the distance events, Kadence Sercu led the way with a PR and 4th place finish in the 800m, while Olivia Boggs added a PR of her own. That group powered the record-setting 4x800 relay. In the field events, Kenlee Wright had a strong day with a 5th place finish in both shot put and discus. Rylee Seidel was a key contributor across multiple events, placing in shot put and discus while also taking 6th in triple jump. Overall, it was a historic and highly successful meet for Higbee, with six school records, a long list of personal bests, and athletes continuing to improve across the board. The program continues to build momentum, with both the boys and girls teams finding their strides!

Higbee took on the Glasgow Varsity Relays on Friday! Leading the way was Danny Janssen, who had an outstanding meet. He placed 2nd in the 300m hurdles, added strong finishes in the long jump and high jump—tying his personal best—and delivered a huge performance in the javelin with a season best that ranks #2 all-time in school history. Brayson Harlan showed progress on the track with a PR in the 100m, while also scoring in the 300m hurdles and contributing in the long jump. In the throws, Jeremiah Simmons put together one of his best meets of the season with season-best performances in both discus and shot put, continuing to develop as a key contributor. Jacob Sanderson added depth in both events as well. On the girls side, Kiersten Rockett competed well in the sprints and long jump, while Abbigail Henderson added a solid effort in the 200m. Naomi Schlapper highlighted the group with a PR in the 400m and also contributed across multiple events. In the distance events, Shyanna DeWeese and Ayla Griffin battled in the 800m, with DeWeese coming back to score in discus (#2 Higbee Mark All Time) and continue her strong season in the throws. Griffin PRd in Discus with a 22m throw. The girls relay team of Kylie Sinklear, Jayla Schaedel, Abbigail Henderson, and Kiersten Rockett scored in the 4x100 and continues to improve each meet. It was a meet highlighted by Janssen’s historic javelin mark, multiple PRs and season bests, and continued progress across the roster.
