The Higbee Tigers rose to the challenge at the Class 1 District Meet. Record-Breaking Performances Danny Janssen delivered one of the biggest moments of the meet, breaking his own Higbee school record in the 300m hurdles with a blazing 43.36, earning 3rd place and advancing to sectionals. Danny also qualified in high jump, where he placed 2nd with a personal best of 1.80m. He added another personal best performance in javelin, placing 5th, narrowly missing a sectional bid. He will be competing in Centralia next weekend! On the girls side, Sadie Pegelow made history by breaking the girls school record in discus with a throw of 26.30m. She came into the meet placed 18th, but in no way did that shake her. She made the finals (top 8) and then threw the record in her 2nd attempt in the final round. While her season came to a close at districts, Sadie’s record-breaking performance secured her place in Higbee history and marked an incredible finish to her career. Sectional Qualifier Higbee will be represented at sectionals by Danny Janssen after qualifying in: * 300m Hurdles – 3rd place (School Record, 43.36) * High Jump – 2nd place (1.80m PB) Danny continues to prove himself as one of the most versatile and accomplished athletes in school history. Boys Highlights Jedidiah Williams came painfully close to advancing, finishing 5th in discus (34.47m)—just one spot shy of sectionals. His season showcased tremendous improvement and consistency in the throws. Corbin Imhoff had an outstanding district meet as a freshman, scoring in both the 400m (8th, 56.09 PB) and high jump (7th, 1.65m PB) while also competing well in triple jump. He finished the season with 3 Higbee Freshman records in these events. Brayson Harlan wrapped up a strong senior campaign with a personal best in the 100m (12.53), points in pole vault (6th), and a bounce back finish after wiping out in the 300m hurdles. Jeremiah Simmons continued his impressive freshman season with multiple personal bests in hurdles and shot put! Josiah Williams set a personal best the 100m dash! Girls Highlights Kiersten Rockett made the finals and finished with a 7th-place finish in long jump (4.55m) and contributed heavily in both sprint relays. Kylie Sinklear posted a personal best in triple jump with a 9.03m jump. She became the 2nd Freshman in school history to clear 9 meters. Her long jump performance was impressive as well. She remained a major contributor in relays to help set two season bests. Naomi Schlapper, Mya Sears, Jayla Schaedel, and Shyanna DeWeese all continued to compete hard, with several earning personal bests and valuable district experience that will help shape the future of Higbee girls track. Relay Highlights The girls sprint relays continued to shine on the postseason stage: * Girls 4x200 Relay: 7th place, season-best 2:05.77 * Girls 4x100 Relay: Season-best 58.89 The boys 4x400 relay team of Brayson Harlan, Corbin Imhoff, Keaton Boyd, and Danny Janssen also earned points with a 7th-place, season-best 4:06.82. Senior Send-Off Districts marked the final high school meet for several Higbee seniors who helped elevate this program: Brayson Harlan – A versatile leader who competed wherever Higbee needed him, from sprints to hurdles to pole vault. He is truly dedicated and an exceptional talent! Sadie Pegelow – A record-breaker who closes her career as the new girls discus school record holder. Keaton Boyd – A key contributor in sprint events and relays whose work helped strengthen the team. Aiden Freidin - An athlete willing to try anything! These seniors helped build the foundation for Higbee’s continued success, and their contributions will not be forgotten. Go Tigers! 🐅
